The spring of 1979 was different for the history of Iran and its people from all the preceding spring. This was the first spring, in which there was no rule of kings and emperors. That is why the rescued people of Iran called the spring of 1979 the “Spring of Freedom”
With the arrival of the Norouz of 1979, groups of people commemorated the New Year by attending the tombs of the Revolution’s martyrs. That’s where the slogan came from and with the coming of spring, the words had flowed for years: “During the Spring of Freedom, the martyrs are missed!”
Before the New Year 1979 began, new gold coins had been designed to replace the old coins at the suggestion of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, and by approval of the prime minister of the Provisional Administration, Mahdi Bazargan.
The name of these coins, on one side of which, was the name of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and on the other side the dome and the court of Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him), was called the “Spring of Freedom.”
