“In the course of history, there have been numerous definitions for art, proposed by philosophers, art lovers, and sometimes artists, and which may be summarized in the following sentence: ‘Art is the subjective reaction of the artist to the political, social, economic, and philosophical problems and issues.’ Now, this being the case, we can say that if the artist is to be able to have an accurate grasp of these problems and issues and transfer his understanding to those he is addressing, he must at least be honest with himself. He must have reached a state of inner authenticity, which emerges after years of work and experience. There are artists, who, after years of work, reach the conclusion that they do not possess the pure and creative artistic spirit, and that they have been deceiving both themselves and others by pretense and by producing formalistic, inauthentic works.”
