After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, those who fought with the Shah’s government were injured by the torture of SAVAK agents in prison. Also, those who were injured in the days of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in mass demonstrations with bullets by the Shah’s soldiers is called a “veteran.”
After the start of Iraq’s Imposed War on Iran [the Iran-Iraq War] and the increasing casualties, the word “war” has become more popular.
The number of casualties of the Imposed War is estimated at 300,000.
The Oppressed Foundation is responsible for dealing with the affairs of those who were later named the Oppressed and Veterans Foundation.
Now, nearly two decades after the end of Iraq’s Imposed War in Iran, the testimony of veterans is occasionally heard. Most of them are survivors of chemical attacks who were injured during the Sacred Defence during the bombings and chemical attacks that were carried out by Iraqi forces. In contemporary history, Hadhrat Abbas ibn Ali (a), who according to numerous traditions, dedicated his two hands to the defence of religion before his martyrdom, was dubbed “the veteran of Karbala.”
al-Abbas was born on Sha’ban 4 that is called “Veterans Day.”
