Mohammad Bokharaei was born in 1944 in a neighbourhood near Shoush Square in Tehran. After finishing elementary school, he went to Farrokhi High School in the same neighbourhood in the south of the city. Mohammad showed his inclination for political activity for the first time by participating in the teachers’ demonstration on May 2, 1961. It was during this demonstration that he was injured in a fight with the regime forces and this caused him to be deprived of education. Bokharaei later became friends with Reza Safar-Harandi and by participating in the meetings of Haj Shaykh Ali-Asghar Harandi, the prayer leader of Darvaz-e Ghar Mosque, he became more familiar with Islam and its intellectual ideas. With the beginning of Imam Khomeini’s movement, Mohammad Bokharaei and Reza Safar-Harandi got to know Mahdi Iraqi. Iraqi prepared them for carrying out armed struggles and connected them with Mohammad-Sadeq Amani who inspired and motivated them. He taught them how to use weapons.
With the exile of Imam Khomeini (ra) to Turkey on November 4, 1964, the Islamic Coalition Party decided to start an armed struggle and assassinate the leaders of the regime. First, it was decided that Hasan-Ali Mansour, the prime minister of the Shah and the one who signed the Capitulation agreement, should be eliminated. Mohammad Bokharaei worked in an iron shop. A day before the implementation of the decision, he took leave from the shop owner under the excuse that he would get married tomorrow. On the day of the incident, he went out of the house wearing neat and clean clothes, that is, on the morning of January 21st, 1965. Mohammad Bokharaei, Mortaza Niknejad and Mohammad-Sadeq Harandi were waiting for Hasan-Ali Mansour’s arrival in Baharestan Square. Mohammad Bokharaei, while hiding a small gun in his sleeve, was standing in front of the small door of the National Consultative Assembly along with others who were waiting to give their written requests to the Prime Minister. As soon as the Prime Minister got off from the car and came closer, Bokharaei shot him two times and then ran away from the scene but finally was arrested.
In an announcement on this occasion, the government announced that the Prime Minister was assassinated by a young man, Mohammad Bokharaei, at the entrance of the National Consultative Assembly. The assailant was immediately arrested and Mr. Prime Minister was transferred to Pars Hospital. The Shah’s regime was preparing to celebrate the second anniversary of the White Revolution on January 27, 1965. It is said that the news of Mansour’s death would disrupt the celebration because public mourning should have been announced. Therefore, the announcement was delayed and instead it was stated that his physical condition is improving. A day after the celebration, the news of Mansour’s death was released. On June 16, 1965, Mohammad Bokharaei, together with three other fighters, were tried in a military court and sentenced to death. Later on, they were executed by the regime.
