The effects of Ashura on the Islamic Revolution of Iran

The uprising of Hadhrat Aba Abdullah al-Husayn (a) on the 10th of Muharram in the year 61 AH had an anti-oppression and anti-arrogance essence. Therefore, the Shi’ahs have always encountered the tyrants over time and have not tolerated unjust governments. Modern history also sees the emphasized role of Muharram in authentic popular movements. We see the full embodiment of this effect in the Islamic Revolution, where people relied on this with slogans such as, “Our movement is Husayni; our leader is Khomeini.”
